Simple Tips To Collecting Movie Posters
I love movie posters and I enjoy having them hanging around my home. I buy movie posters on a monthly basis and currently my collection is getting close to ten thousand different posters.
I never intended to start a poster collection. I just enjoy movies and like to have the art work hanging in my home. My wife used to think that I was a bit crazy until she heard that some of my movie posters are worth thousands of dollars. If you are going to start a collection, there are a few things to keep in mind.
First, do some research into the terminology. There are different types of movie posters that are worth more than others and some people I know have gotten confused when buying movie posters because they did not understand the terminology.
Second, get involved with other collectors in your area. There are a lot of people that collect all types of things and they can be a valuable resource for information. Currently I belong to a network of collectors that helps each other find the really rare movie posters that people in our group are looking for.
And lastly, buy new movie posters often. Some of today's movie posters are printed in limited runs and many of the movies that are coming out in the coming months have special prints that never end up becoming the official poster of the movie. One such poster is 'Revenge of the Jedi.' This poster was printed and almost released when it was pulled because they decided to change the name of the movie to, 'Return of the Jedi.' I was lucky enough to find this poster at a swap meet many years ago and today it is worth quite a bit.
Buying movie posters is not just a way to decorate a kid's bedroom, to some it is big business.
